In addition to a caravan Gas Safety Certificate, caravans and trailers over 750kg require a Roadworthy to be registered after a sale.
The system is similar to a standard light vehicle test in that all safety issues need to be checked together with the overall condition of the caravan. We provide mobile inspections to make this process as convenient as possible for you.
Roadworthy Inspection Checklist
Chains & Couplings
Must be in good condition and free of rust.
Braking System
Must be in good working order with acceptable brake pads.
External Lights
Indicators, stop lamps, and number plate lights must work correctly.
Light Lenses
Correct color, no fading or cracks allowed.
Reflectors
Must be clean and undamaged to serve their purpose.
Wheels
Free of rust and damage; must roll smoothly without bearing noise.
Tyres
Minimum tread depth of 1.6mm; correct size and load rating.
Suspension
Unmodified (unless certified) and in good functioning condition.
Chassis
No structural rust (should not be able to push a screwdriver through metal).
Legal Note: It is legally obligatory to maintain your caravan in a roadworthy condition once a certificate is issued.

Roadworthy FAQ
Is a roadworthy required for all trailers?
In QLD, any caravan or trailer with an Aggregate Trailer Mass (ATM) over 750kg must have a roadworthy for sale or registration.
How long is a roadworthy certificate valid?
For private sellers, certificates are valid for 2 months or 2,000km (whichever comes first).
